Storybook Park will not be opening this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Park Administrator Christa Greve says we're already in mid-June and they're not sure they'd even qualify for Stage Three, which the Province has not yet announced.
"We don't believe that we're anywhere near being able to open in terms of physical distancing and safety measures that would be required for the park," says Greve.
"There's no way of physical distancing the children here. They want to run around, have a good time, and we're not going to worry about being security guards and making sure the kids are where they're supposed to be." She adds, "There's cleaning the rides, wiping the rides down when they get off, making sure everybody is limited to the spots that they stand in-- it's just not something that we think will enjoyable for the children this summer."
Greve explains, "We really don't want to have to have somebody policing where the children go and what they can do, what they can touch."
She says Storybook Park operates seasonally, from the May long weekend until Labour Day, "At this point we just have July and August left, if that."
But Greve is confident they'll be be able to welcome kids back to the park in 2021, saying they have, "Big plans to open next year."
She notes the park had already sold numerous season passes for 2020 and says those can be refunded or carried over to be used in 2021.
Storybook park is a family business, says Greve, "It's been here since 1975 and it's just expanded of the years. It's just a great local attraction, so we are heartbroken that we're not going to be able to this summer."'
Storybook park is located on Storybook Park Road on the eastern edge of Owen Sound.
