Provincial Police have provided a grim update to their investigation into the disappearance of 25-year-old Meaford man.

Grey Bruce OPP say in a release, the canine unit located human remains on Wednesday and a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the identity and cause of death.

Police say one person, who has not been identified, has been arrested and remains in custody.

A search for 25-year-old Emerson Sprung commenced when he was reported missing on Sunday, after last being seen leaving his family residence at Trowbridge Street West in Meaford around 9 p.m. on May 2 on his BMX bicycle.

OPP did not say where the remains were found. Police were on site at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford Wednesday and had asked residents to stay away from the area.

The investigation remains ongoing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch. Provincial Police say more information will be released as it becomes available.

Police are asking anyone with information involving the ongoing investigation to contact Grey Bruce OPP or Crime Stoppers.
