Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced measures to help the agri-food sector.
A $252 million dollar aid package was announced this morning to avoid food shortages and to help farmers through the pandemic.
In his announcement it included $77 million to help food processors protect their workers, including meat processing plants which have had outbreaks of COVID-19.
$125 million help farmers adapt to market changes and 50 million dollars will fund an initiative to buy large quantities of surplus foods like potatoes and poultry and send them to organizations who deal with food insecurities.
They will also increase the credit line for dairy farmers but have to pass legislation in the House of Commons to get that going.
