Bayshore Race Cancelled

The Owen Sound Subaru Bayshore Race has been cancelled.

The event which has been conducted for the past 10 years has been a terrific fundraiser for the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation and healthcare in Grey and Bruce

However, in the name of caution and participant safety the 2020 Subaru Bayshore Race scheduled for August 30th has been cancelled.

Over the course of time, the event has generated more than $ 370,000 for the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation and healthcare in Grey & Bruce County.


CFL Draft 

The Canadian Football League Draft was staged last night.

The B.C. Lions made a deal with the Calgary Stampeders to acquire the number 1 pick and selected linebacker Jordan Williams 

Williams hasn't played football since 2017 when he finished second in tackles at East Carolina with 89 

Williams is an American by birth but was deemed a national for the draft because his mother is Canadian.


NASCAR Wheels in Motion

NASCAR plans to restart their season on May 17th with an elite Cup Series race at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina.

That event will be the first of 7 events in an 11-day stretch across the top 3 series.

NASCAR has set guidelines to safely hold the events using CDC guidelines on social distancing and personal protective equipment. 

The revised NASCAR schedule goes only through May and has a pair of Wednesday Cup races.


NHL This Season & Next

Commissioner Gary Bettman indicated that " next " season for NHL Hockey may also be impacted by the league’s current hiatus.

Bettman said the league isn't unopposed to delaying the start of next season, if need be.

A start in November or December for " next " season will be under consideration, based on what transpires as it pertains to the conclusion of this season.


Laraque Tests Positive

Former NHL player Georges Laraque has tested positive for COVID-19.

Laraque made the announcement on social media yesterday.

He played 12 seasons in the NHL including 8 with the Edmonton Oilers.


Rier Named Top Grizzly

The Georgian College Grizzlies conducted their Year End Awards.

The Female Athlete of the Year was golfer Rachael Rier from Hanover.

In the first tournament of the College season, the Fanshawe Invitational at the FireRock Golf Club just outside of London Rier won the women’s individual with a round of 78

The award was announced ( via technology ) by LPGA player Lexi Thompson.

Thompson, who is now 25 years of age, was the youngest golfer to ever qualify to play in the U.S. Women's Open, qualifying as a 12 year old.


Little League Cancelled

The Little League World Series and the championship tournaments in 6 other Little League divisions have been cancelled

The cancellations were announced yesterday from league headquarters in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, 

The Little League World Series has been held every August since 1947
