Provincial police are reminding you to be cautious when using online dating sites, following an extortion case involving a Huron County man.
OPP say the man recently sent a nude photo to someone he met through an online dating app, and the person receiving the photo threatened to send it to the victim's friends, family, and colleagues if he failed to pay a ransom.
Reports say the victim sent $8 thousand worth of money transfers over a five month period to the scammer.
Police remind you to remember, you cannot control where images and video may travel, once you hit send on your smartphone.
If someone starts demanding payment and threatening you regarding photos or videos, never pay the money, block them from all social media, screen shot messages they have sent you and immediately contact police.
