A New Kind Of Spring Bear Hunt

Grey Bruce | by Claire McCormack

United Way says this year, it's a hunt for teddy bears in windows so isolating families on walks can spot them.

There's a different kind of Spring Bear Hunt on this year.

A Teddy Bear Hunt.
The United Way of Bruce Grey is encouraging people to put teddy bears or other creatures in the front windows of their homes, so self-isolating families out on walks in their neighbourhoods can count the number of bears they see.

Executive director Francesca Dobbyn says in a release, "It's super hard for kids to be locked up all day and isolated from their families and friends. But a responsible wander around the home block provides much needed fresh air and improves mental health."

Dobbyn says families can also upload photos of their favourite bears to TheDo Spring Bear Hunt Facebook page at

TheDo is a project our local United Way created to connect offers of support with requests for resources from the community.

Dobbyn says so far, TheDo has received 36 requests for assistance many of which were for food support.

Dobbyn says people can sign up through the web-portal.  If you call 211, they will help you sign up for assistance if you do not have access to the internet.
