A second staff member at Dufferin Oaks Long Term Care Home in Shelburne has tested positive for COVID-19.
The news was confirmed today by the County of Dufferin who operates the home.
Both this latest employee, and the first one that tested positive, have not been onsite since first showing symptoms and both are isolating at home.
Dufferin Oaks has implemented stringent screening protocols last week making sure staff who felt unwell in any way, were told not to come to work.
Officials at the facility are working closely with Wellington Dufferin Public Health to identify any resident or staff that may have been in close contact with this second staff member.
Currently none of the residents have presented with symptoms and staff are continuing to diligently monitor them.
Dufferin Oaks is following the guidance of public health including taking the following measures:
-Isolating residents in the impacted units;
-Taking temperatures of all residents and staff;
-All staff members are wearing surgical masks throughout the day and additional personal protective equipment as recommended by public health.
-Families of residents are being contacted to let them know of these new measures and to provide support and answer questions. The safety and well-being of our residents and staff are of the utmost importance.
