Union Wants Casino Rama To shut Down Due To Worries About COVID-19

Rama | by Matt Sitler

The Local’s President Corey Dalton says the Union is “currently and aggressively” seeking information regarding potential closures of workplaces in the face of the ongoing Covid-19 threat.

Unifor Local 1090, which represents workers at Casino Rama, is calling on the Casino to shut down in the face of the ongoing COVID-19 threat.

On Facebook today, the Local’s President Corey Dalton said the Union is “currently and aggressively” seeking information regarding potential closures of workplaces in the face of the ongoing Covid-19 threat.

He noted today’s advisory by the Province’s Chief Medical Officer seeking the immediate suspension of all public gatherings of more than 250 people.

So far, the Casino hasn’t issued a response to the Union’s complete shutdown request, but on Twitter they announced the cancellation of the Chilliwack & Streetheart concert scheduled for March 13 has been postponed. Franki Valli & the Four Seasons upcoming concert has also been cancelled.

We’ve reached out to Gateway Casinos & Entertainment's Director of Public Affairs & Communications Rob Mitchell, but have yet to receive a response.
