Man Sentenced For Uttering Threats In December Tara Standoff

Arran-Elderslie man arrested in barricaded home incident has jail time, probation & weapons ban.

A 27 year old man from Arran-Elderslie who was involved in a December 'high risk situation' on Yonge Street in Tara has been sentenced after pleading guilty to Uttering Threats and for Failure to Appear in Court.

Bradley Caskanette was sentenced to 99 days pre-sentence custody on Feb 19, 2020 for a July 3 2019 Assault of on a Police Officer charge as well a Failure to Appear charge and 81 days in jail on top of credit for 99 days pre-sentence custody for Uttering Threats.

He is facing 18 months of concurrent probation and has a 10 year weapons prohibition.

Police say on December 17 2019, Caskanette had barricaded himself in a house in Tara and after several hours of persuasion by police, was removed and arrested without incident.

OPP Negotiators, the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, the Emergency Response Team and the OPP canine unit were involved in the situation.

Throughout the course of the morning on December 17, roads through Tara and Invermay had been closed with drivers being rerouted around town, and as an extra precaution, the local elementary school put a 'hold and secure' in place and the local school bus route was cancelled.

At the time of his arrest Police say the threats were directed towards law enforcement personnel.
