Flyers' PJHL Season Ends In 5 Games

Kincardine | by Peter Jackson

Kaden Hoggarth scores both Goderich goals in 5-2 loss at the Davidson Centre Friday

The Goderich Flyers now join Walkerton and Hanover on the sidelines, after being eliminated in Game Five of their Provincial Junior Hockey League first-round best-of-seven playoff series against Kincardine at the Davidson Centre Friday.

The Bulldogs clinched the series with a 5-2 victory.

Forward Kaden Hoggarth scored both Flyers' goals on the power play in the second period, with forward Mitch Fisher assisting on the first goal and defenceman Jack Stecho setting up the second.

Stecho was recently recognized as the PJHL Pollock Division Rookie of the Month for January.

The Bulldogs got off to a fast start on Jerrid Fossold's goal just 29 seconds into the first period; Hoggarth's efforts tied the game 2-2.

Geoffrey VandenBoorn, Logan Freiburger, Mike Fiegehen and Bryce McFadden rounded out the Kincardine scoring.

The game was held up for some time during the second period, after Kincardine's Tyler Sutter hit his head on the ice and had to leave the game.

Kincardine advances to face Wingham in the PJHL Pollock Division semi-finals, while Mount Forest meets Mitchell in the other semi-final best-of-seven.

Mitchell swept the Hanover Barons 4-0 in the first round, while first-place Mount Forest had a bye from the opening action -- Wingham sent the Walkerton Hawks packing in the opening round best-of-seven, also in four games.

In the PJHL Yeck Division opening round best-of-seven Friday, Nick Sammons and Jarrett Baker led the Exeter Hawks with two goals each in a 9-2 victory over the Lucan Irish at the South Huron Rec Centre.

The Hawks lead the series 3-0 with Game Four set for Lucan Arena, Saturday at 7:45pm.
