A fishing charter company involved in the Canadian Tire Kincardine Fish Derby says the event will not be taking place this spring.

The annual event which has taken place during the month of May for over 30 years boasts a $10,000 grand prize has been cancelled after the Kincardine Chamber of Commerce which took over the event failed to find new organizers.

Rick Dwinnell owner of Dwindle's Fishing Charter has been involved in the derby since 1989 and will miss the shoulder season event.

"We love derby fishing and we've done it for many, many, years now and I'm not alone, alot of fishermen are going to miss it."

Dwinnell says in years past the event saw fisherman camp at the harbour, however those events which added to the atmosphere no longer took place.

"In the past the Derby was very successful....the campers weren't there anymore and they didn't have the tent for the fish fry...everyone really loved it and it's going to be missed."

The fisherman hopes a new community group will take over the event in 2021.
