Barrie Man Charged After Vehicle Crashes Into Utility Pole

Police say the driver was arrested as he started to walk away from the scene.

A 29-year-old Barrie man who was found walking away from the scene of a crash in Innisfil stands charged with several offences.

On Saturday around 11 pm, police responded to a single-vehicle collision on Mapleview Drive. 

An eastbound vehicle left the roadway into the south ditch and travelled nearly 100 metres before colliding with a wooden utility pole which caused the pole to break.

Live wires landed on top of the vehicle and when police arrived they asked several people at the scene if anyone was associated with the vehicle and they all declined. 

The driver was arrested as he started to walk away from the scene. 

The 29-year-old man was charged with Careless Driving, Fail to Report a Collision, Fail to Remain at the Scene of a Collision and Drive While Under Suspension. 

He was released with a future court date. 

No one was injured.
