Report to Address Shelburne Police Concerns

Shelburne | by Phil DeLand

Shelburne Police brought concerns to council Monday night regarding the disbandment of Orangeville Police.

Town staff in Shelburne will be putting together a report to address concerns from Shelburne Police now that Orangeville Police Service will be disbanded.

Shelburne Police say the four areas of concern are existing police station deficiencies, supervision, provision for court duties and prisoner guard and transport, as well as dispatch services.

Mayor Wade Mills says there will be a special council meeting next Monday the 20th where staff will present its report regarding each one.

Mills says each one of the concerns were expected, especially with Orangeville switching police forces in the fall, over to OPP.

Currently, dispatching for Shelburne is done through Orangeville Police which won't be available once the OPP take over.
