An anonymous donor has donated $1 million to benefit child and youth mental health in Gravenhurst.

The donation was made to the Gravenhurst Rotary Club. the donor is concerned with increasing rates of anxiety, depression and panic attacks amongst youth and is committed to preventing youth suicide.

Specifically, the money will be used to facilitate access to professional support for youths of all genders aged 5-25 who are diagnosed with a mental illness or who are considered to be at high risk.

The donation is to be managed as an endowment fund - it's expected that interest and dividends from the initial investment will provide between $40,000 and $50,000 every year to help young people in crisis move forward with their lives.

The Club is currently developing the structures and policies needed to manage the fund responsibly and will be working with community partners to establish eligibility criteria and design a process for assessing applications.

The work will is expected to be completed by Spring 2020 when they will begin to accept applications.
