Goderich IceTacular Will Not Return In 2020

Goderich | by Peter Jackson

Councillor Trevor Bazinet says reason for stopping IceTacular is lack of volunteers.

It has become a favourite mid-winter attraction for many people in the Goderich area, but IceTacular will not return for 2020.

Since 2016, the event has been held in Courthouse Park, in parallel with the annual Winterfest celebration.

Town Councillor Trevor Bazinet tells Country 104.9 News that not enough volunteers committed to the event, despite extensive advertising by the IceTacular committee.

Bazinet adds that staging IceTacular costs more than $20 thousand.

He mentions that anyone taking over the event would face an uphill battle to fund it themselves, or round up sponsors to help put it on.

The IceTacular committee had approached a number of local service clubs and organizations, in the hope one of them might be willing to take it over.

Bazinet says like many volunteer-dependent events and activities, the number of people who actually show up are far less than those who initially say they will take part.

He hopes IceTacular might return for 2021.
