Owen Sound Needs Committee Volunteers

The city wants members of the public to help advise council on community matters.

The City of Owen Sound is looking for volunteers to sit on its committees.

Mayor Ian Boddy says each committee has at least one public member, "It's really important for us and council to get public input and this is the best way."

Boddy says committee members range in age and experience. He notes he was on a committee before he ran for council and other council members have been as well.

Committees include:
The Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library Committee.

The Owen Sound Municipal Non-Profit Housing Corporation & Owen Sound Housing Company

The Committee of Adjustment (decides on applications for minor variance or property severances)

Community Services Committee (deals with planning, heritage, culture, recreation, cemeteries and building parks facilities)

Corporate Services Committee (advises council on revenue and taxation, accounting, purchasing, information technology, human resources, Council services, legislative services, bylaws and enforcement, parking, animal control, fire protection and prevention)

Operations Committee (asset management, Billy Bishop Airport, corridor control, development servicing and public works, drainage and stormwater management, engineering design and construction, environmental sustainability, fleet acquisition, operation and maintenance, on-street parking, roads and bridges, solid waste, management and landfills, street lighting, traffic control, public transit, water treatment and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment.

Accessibility Advisory Committee (Advise council on matters related to accessibility standards. The majority of the members of the committee must have a disability).

Economic Development and Tourism Advisory Committee (advises council on
economic and business development, business investment, small business, tourism, visitor services and product development).

Tom Thomson Art Gallery Advisory Committee (gives council feedback on TOM exhibitions and activities, act as gallery ambassadors, promotes the TOM).

Terms of service are between two and three years depending on the committee.

In person at City Hall between the hours of 8:30 AM & 4:30 PM.

Applications will be accepted until Friday, December 6th.
