Orangeville Mall Changes Underway

Orangeville | by Jill Young

Mayor Sandy Brown says several big box stores and new storefronts will replace the indoor part of the mall.

Things are looking up for a longtime retail spot in Orangeville.

The Orangeville Mall is mostly empty now, with the exception of a few of the bigger stores, but major changes are happening.

Mayor Sandy Brown says Metro, Shoppers Drug Mart, Homesense, Sport Chek, and Michael's - are all staying put.

There will be three new big box stores across the front, that are said to include Marshalls and PetSmart - which will move over from it's current location.

Shoppers Drug Mart will shift over closer to Metro, and on the side that faces Hansen Blvd, there will be 5 to 6 storefronts where the shoe repair, dental office, and nail salon will go.

He says the change was needed because of what he calls the "Amazon Effect" or online shopping negatively affecting retail stores.

The owners of the mall had trouble in recent years attracting new shops for inside the mall.
