Port Elgin Will Have a Santa Parade After All

Saugeen Shores | by Megan Johnson

Santa will roll through town next Saturday at 7 pm

Santa will be making a stop in Port Elgin after all.

The Port Elgin BIA, Pumpkinfest and Rotary Club have banded together to host a smaller parade through downtown Port Elgin to secure a evening parade for years to come.

Santa and his reindeer will make their way through downtown Port Elgin next Saturday, November 23rd at 7:00 pm.

"We didn't want to have to wait until next year for Santa to pay a visit to downtown Port Elgin," says BIA Chair Tami Runstedler.

The theme of the parade will be "Winter Wonderland".

The parade will run on a revised route on Goderich St., beginning at Elgin St. and proceeding south to Eugenie St (Maple Square Mall).

"We heard feedback that the old parade route was too long, and we're confident the shortened route will make it easier for everyone to enjoy the parade," says Runstedler.

The BIA is still looking for volunteers and registration forms can be found here.

The Chamber of Commerce who originally put on both Santa Claus' Parades in Saugeen Shores told Saugeen Shores Council and Staff they could not financially organize two parades and proposed alternating parades between Southampton and Port Elgin.

The Chamber put out a call to other organizations to step up to merry plate and the Port Elgin community groups answered.

The Southampton Parade will take place Friday, December 6.
