The Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation kicked-off it’s annual "Light the Way" fundraising season by hosting the "Return to Prom" gala Saturday (Nov. 9) which raised over $7,000 for the Southampton Hospital.
In between dancing, and live Auctions, Southampton’s Sammy Acton, was introduced as this year’s Light the Way Champion.
The G.C. Huston student was a patient in the ER in Southampton; whose compelling story is featured in this year’s Light the Way mail-out which will hit mailboxes in Saugeen Shores over the next few weeks.
Sammy is also featured in the Light the Way Community Calendar which was unveiled at the gala.
The calendar features local businesses and local kids celebrating a different theme every month from racing motorcycles to dancing on the beach in December.
Jamie Edwards of Jme Photography, was the photographer for the project.
"This was a fun project to work on for such a great cause. We all use the hospital at some point so this was definitely something I wanted to get behind and help support."
Calendars will be available beginning Tuesday, November 12 at a cost of $10 and can be found at Mowbray’s Canadian Tire, Bicyclette Rouge, Tiny’s Motorcycle, Sutton Huron Shores Realty and the hospital Foundation office.
Executive Director of the Foundation Tracy Murray says, "our goal is to get these Light the Way calendars into every stocking in Saugeen Shores this Christmas".
She adds any retail outlets interested in carrying the calendars should contact the Hospital Foundation office at 519-797-3230 x3230.
