Cost Of Goderich Beach-Front Boardwalk Estimated $800k

Goderich | by Peter Jackson

Town council still to decide whether boardwalk will be paved, planked, or a mix.

The clock is ticking, on starting work to replace the current boardwalk along Goderich's three beaches.

Town Council Monday awarded the job to Art's Landscaping at a cost of around $800 thousand, then tabled debate until October 21st.

Some Councillors say they need time to study options on what the walkway will be made of.

They have a choice between a combination of either concrete or asphalt along with pressurized timber, or having the walkway paved along its entire length.

Mayor John Grace hopes the extra time will help form a majority opinion, one way or the other.

He says the decision coming in late October will still allow work to start, but will shorten the length of time to work on the boardwalk replacement before winter sets in.

Grace is concerned that any further delay on the decision, would drive the project into 2021 before it's finished.

Director of Operations Chip Wilson told Council that work can start as soon as a decision is voted on, but there would have to be a delay for the summer season that starts on June 15th.

The new walkway will replace the current timber boardwalk, that's been in place since the 1980s.
