Some Schools Will Close in Event of Strike

Regional | by Jill Young

If picket lines go up on Monday, some school boards have elected to close schools.

Talks are back on today between the Ministry of Education and CUPE, in the hopes of avoiding a strike by education workers.

55,000 education unionized support workers could be on the picket lines on Monday if no deal is reached.

If a strike were to happen, the Peel District School Board and the Dufferin Peel Catholic Board have decided they are closing schools.

The Upper Grand District School Board says all of their CUPE schools and board sites would be open on Monday in the event of a strike, but all Community Use would be cancelled, and they will continue to keep a close eye on the situation.

The Simcoe County District School Board says at this point, schools will remain open on Monday but would post on their website by 6 am if a decision is made to close the schools.
