CUPE work-to-rule impacting use of schools by community groups

Midhurst | by Ian MacLennan

Permits for use of public schools and facilities in Simcoe County are on hold indefinitely.

As of today, permits to community groups for use of public schools and facilities in Simcoe County are on hold indefinitely.

This is because of the work-to-rule campaign by thousands of educators.

Custodians and maintenance staff are represented by CUPE at the Simcoe County District School Board.

Contract talks broke off Sunday,  and while the education minister suggested yesterday they could pick up again later in the week,  CUPE is of a different opinion.

The union says no dates were offered and both sides are too far apart to resume bargaining.
