Affordable housing a key election plank

More than half of households in two of the five federal ridings in Simcoe County spend 30 per cent of income on rent/utilities.

With affordable housing a key issue in this election, more than 50 per cent of households in two of the five federal ridings in Simcoe County spend 30 per cent of their income on rent and utilities.

52 per cent in Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte and 51 per cent in Simcoe North.

The analysis of all 338 federal ridings was conducted by a consortium of real estate and housing groups.

In Simcoe-Grey and Barrie-Innisfil,  it is 45 per cent each, 46 per cent in York-Simcoe.

Where households spend half of their income on rent and hydro,  the number is between 20 and 22 per cent among the federal ridings in Simcoe County.
