Turtle Hatchlings To Be Released At Exeter's Morrison Dam

Exeter | by Peter Jackson

Fourth annual turtle release runs Thursday, becoming among most popular events for conservation officials.

The Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Authority's fourth annual turtle hatchling release has become one of the most popular events of the year in the Exeter area.

Authority officials say hundreds of people attended the release last year, of infant turtles hatched from eggs recovered from the area and then incubated.

The ABCA bills the release as a "turtle education event", in which locals of all ages can learn about the reptiles, and some of the threats they face.

There will be releases each half-hour between 1pm and 5pm this afternoon at the Morrison Dam Conservation Area on Morrison Line, south of County Road 83.

The turtle release is free, but the ABCA encourages you to donate what you can, to help the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre.
