Dollars doled out to local organizations.

The Port Elgin and Southampton Rotary clubs has been busy handing out money raised from the Rotary Huron Shore Run, held in June.

In total, $53,600 was given to four organizations.

Rotarian and co-chair of the run committee June Van Bastelaar says the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation received the largest amount at $38,000; while the Port Elgin and Southampton Rotary Clubs each got $5,200.
$5,200 was also given to the Saugeen Track and Field Club.

The cheque presentations were made following the regular meeting of the Port Elgin Rotary Club at the Queen's Hotel on Tuesday, August 13th.

Hospital Foundation board member Jonna Ebel says the money "Goes a long way towards helping us provide new supplies for the hospital."

She points out the province does not provide any funding for equipment purchases so they have to depend on local fundraisers and the Rotary Huron Shore Run is one of the big ones that is counted on every year.
