Chief Greg Nadjiwon has been re-elected as Chief of Chippewas of Nawash Unceed First Nation.

Chief Nadjiwon received 400 votes with Carlene Keeshig obtaining 129 votes and Jake Linklater receiving 91 votes.

Nadjiwon says he's glad to have the community support for the most part, adding "for those other's, I will work on gaining their support over the next two years."

"We've worked very hard on trying to secure a new Water Treatment Plant and we're on the threshold of having our project accepted and I wanted to see that through."

The Chief says he will also continue to work on the Bruce Power Isotope Initiative.

Nadjiwon will be joined by five returning Councillors: Tony Chegahno, Nick Saunders, Sidney Nadjiwon, Martha Pedoniquotte, and Arlene Chegahno.

King Solomon, Elliot Geewadin, Carolyn Wright, and John Bernard Keeshig obtained the remaining council seats.

"I'm quite thrilled with anyone who puts their name forward," but he did admit that he was sad to see some councillors go.

"I thought we had a good working council... I'm quite aware of the talents of the... newbies... they're quite skilled and they're educated and they have experience in a whole lot of areas and have backgrounds themselves."

Chief and Council are elected every two years in accordance with the Indian Act.
