Camper Fire in Hanover

Hanover | by Robyn Garvey

Firefighters quickly extinguish blaze.

Hanover Fire Crews were kept busy this morning, as they responded to a blaze on 7th Avenue just a few homes north of the ReStore.

The call came in around 9 am this morning.

Upon arriving, fire crews found a fifth wheel camper trailer fully engulfed in flames.

Within 15 minutes, Fire Captain Rob Hagan says  firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze.

Originally both the Walkerton and Elmwood Fire Departments were called in for assistance.

However, Hagan says upon arriving they cancelled the Walkerton Fire Department request and received some assistance from the Elmwood Fire Department.

As for the cause of the blaze, that has yet to be determined.

Hagan says it is fortunate the fire was extinguished as quickly as it was, as the camper was located near a workshop.

He credits firefighters for a job well done, saying everyone worked quickly to knock down the blaze in a very professional manner.

Hagan says fire crews worked hard to keep damage at a minimum, as for the camper it is completely destroyed.

Neighbour Jim Munro is also relieved the camper was the only causality of the fire.

He says with the nearby shop and homes, this could have gone very wrong, but thanks to the firefighters it didn't.
