Exeter | by Fadi Didi

Police say officer suffered minor injury, following altercation with resident on Carling Street.

An OPP officer suffered a minor injury, after being attacked by an Exeter resident with a baseball bat.

Police say they were called about fireworks being set off on Carling Street, but arrived to find no signs of activity.

According to reports, a second call to police was made by the same resident, and officers were able to track the call to a specific home.

After attempting to speak with the caller at the home, OPP say the accused charged out of the front door with a baseball bat, and struck an officer in the arm before retreating back inside.

Reports say the man surrendered himself to police nearly 90 minutes later, without incident.

A 33 year old Exeter man is charged with assault a peace officer with a weapon, and is scheduled to appear in Goderich court August 12th.
