Saugeen Shores Looking for New Canteen Operators

The current providers did not renew their lease based on the level of service expectations

Saugeen Shores is on the hunt for new service providers of the canteen outlets at the Plex and Southampton Coliseum.

Community Services Director Jayne Jagelewski says, in an information report to councillors, that the current canteen providers have decided not to renew their lease based on the level of service expectations.

Jagelewski says the RFP will be looking for one service provider to operate both canteens.

She says the RFP's will be advertised for 3 weeks which is cutting it close to when the canteens are needed during hockey season.

Canteen Service at Plex and Coliseum on Hold

You may recall in June, many councillors were leery about extending the current lease for a year because of what was described as sporadic service at both locations during various events and tournaments.

Operators Tom and Nadine Montgomery mentioned in their report that financially it was difficult to open when user groups didn't schedule games back to back, along with outside food and drink being brought in by users.

Also limited resources in the small canteen space at the Southampton Coliseum made it difficult to provide adequate service.

Jagelewski says the new RFP will reflect the changing food-handling laws; food selection will be defined and the town will be looking for a one-year lease.
