Meaford | by Matt Hermiz

Human remains were match to 65-year-old who went missing in Meaford in 2011. No foul play suspected.

Provincial Police say a human foot found on the shoreline of Georgian Bay near Meaford nearly two years ago belonged to a man who went missing in the area in 2011.

No foul play is suspected.

Grey Bruce OPP say John Patterson, 65, was reported missing in November 2011 and believed to be in the Meaford area.

At the time, police located a van belonging to the missing male in the area of Kiowana Beach, north of Meaford.

According to past media reports, Patterson is believed to have disappeared after going out onto Georgian Bay in a canoe.

Six years later -- in November 2017 -- OPP received a report of human remains found on the shoreline of Georgian Beach Road North in Meaford.

Police say it was confirmed through forensics the remains were a human foot.

In May 2019, an analysis conducted by the Centre of Forensic Sciences confirmed the DNA of the human foot matches the DNA of the man who went missing in 2011.
