The debate on Memorial Arena in Goderich continues at town Council, with the latest issue being replacement of the air conditioning system.
The party room upstairs at the venue is a frequent location for gatherings and activities, but the space is completely enclosed and becoming too hot to be used.
Councillor Trevor Bazinet wants the town to issue a request for proposals, noting that the only quote so far carries a $44 thousand price tag.
Chief Administrative Officer Larry McCabe advises against the expenditure, noting that it could be the start of spending on a building that could be torn down eventually.
The ice was pulled out of the building last year, after an engineer's report expressed concern over the condition of the arena's ammonia-based cooling system
A proposed survey on the future of Memorial Arena will likely offer demolition as an option, along with questions on renovation or sale to a private sector operator.
