Goderich Sunday Market Gearing For Holiday Weekend Crowd

Goderich | by Peter Jackson

The event has entered into a three-year lease with the town for use of Courthouse Park

It took two votes and much confusion, but a three-year lease between the Town of Goderich and the operators of the Courthouse Square Open-Air Sunday Market is in effect.

The co-owner of Pat and Kevin's On The Square, Kevin Morrison operates the event with his partner Patrick Foster.

Morrison says the market is important in reviving Sunday business for surrounding stores, which had seen a drop in revenue with the end of the downtown flea market last September.

The former Mayor says some vendors from the old flea market have returned to the downtown, while new vendors are joining up.

Morrison says as the market expands, it will include entertainment on the performance stage.

He adds that vendor diversity is key to the market's success, and that they're seeking out a variety of both traditional and non-traditional sellers.

Last weekend's market was held during the Huron Multicultural Festival.

Council this week approved the three-year lease, while the standard lease for those operating a temporary business on town property runs for one year.
