A heads up to motorists:
A protest group called ‘Muskoka Power of Many’ are locating themselves on overpasses this afternoon between Severn Bridge and Gravenhurst between 3 and 5pm.
They are protesting local MPP Norm Miller and Premier Doug Ford’s government’s recent cuts to various programs.
They have unfurled banners with their slogans for all the long weekend travellers to cottage country this weekend to see.
On the Facebook Group Page 'Muskoka Power of Many' the following press release statement was posted earlier this afternoon:
"The legislature may be closed, but the hurt grows deeper. Muskoka Power of Many will welcome cottagers to the region this Canada Day long weekend. From 3pm to 5pm Friday June 28th organizers will greet visitors with messages of resistance on hwy 11. between Severn Bridge and Gravenhurst
With the extreme austerity measures that Doug Ford and our MPP Norm Miller are legislating, it’s hard not to know someone who hasn’t been impacted by the cuts that are sweeping through this Province. From students to educators, from women’s rights to worker’s rights, from inaction on the climate crisis to the privatization of our healthcare to the defunding of our legal clinics, the list is long and grows longer every day. Local retailers are already feeling the pinch from all the job uncertainty. MPP Norm Miller thinks that Doug Ford is doing a good job. We’re here to say, you’re wrong Mr. Miller.
Muskoka Power of Many is an organizing committee of community advocates that deliver prompt solidarity actions in response to cuts and privatization efforts by Doug Ford and Norm Miller’s PC government.
We activate and connect with community allies, family, friends, neighbours, the general public and local labour unions."
