Owen Sound Starts Process To Find New City Manager

Owen Sound | by Cody Misner

Wayne Ritchie is set to retire in May 2020.

With Owen Sound's current city manager set to retire in May 2020, the hunt is on to find a replacement.

At its meeting this week, city council approved a plan to retain an executive search firm to identify candidates to succeed Wayne Ritchie.

Ritchie has served as Owen Sound's city manager since 2015.

A committee of councillors will also be established -- Travis Dodd, Brock Hamley and Richard Thomas -- to assist city staff by relating the qualities sought by council in a new city manager.

Council hopes to award a contract to the firm selected to carry out the search by this fall. According to a staff report, it's expected to come at a cost between $20,000 to $40,000.

The hope is to have a new city manager hired by April or May 2020.
