Police Say Bear Seen In Owen Sound Not A Threat

City police say a bear was seen near Alpha Street Monday

Owen Sound police say a bear that was reportedly seen in the Alpha Street area is not likely a threat to public safety.

Police were called at about 12:30 Monday afternoon (June 17) with a report of a bear sighting in the valley behind Alpha Street and 2nd Avenue West.

The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) and police attended the scene.

Police say they determined the bear had likely wandered into the valley and stream area.

Police say there were no injuries and there was no indication the bear ever posed a risk to the community.

Police are reminding the public if a bear is seen in a populated area to always call 911 immediately.
