A Walkerton company is marking a major milestone.
Larsen & Shaw is celebrating its 100th Anniversary.
President and CEO Mary Jane Bushell says it is amazing to reflect upon all the people that have worked at the family owned business since 1919.
Larsen & Shaw is procession manufacturer using stamping presses to produce metal parts, primarily hinges for the industrial and retail market across North America.
Bushell credits Larsen & Shaw’s success is to a combination of factors.
They include: a very committed workforce, a strong rural work ethic, stability of ownership, ongoing investment, as well as a special thanks to the leadership teams over the decades that have helped to guide the company through difficult times.
Bushell says here’s looking forward to another century.
She says this can be achieved by progressing in terms of implementing automation and technology so they can compete with the world.
Bushell notes that along with the traditional skilled trades, there is also great opportunities within Larsen & Shaw for those interested in a career in automation and technology.
She encourages youth to consider the possibilities.
Larsen & Shaw employees about 100 people with careers ranging from finance, accounting and marketing to traditional skilled trades such as tool and dye and millwright as well as all of the technical skills on the floor.
She calls the company a hidden gem that has played an important role in the local economy for a century now.
In turn, Bushell says the community has been very good to Larsen & Shaw.
To celebrate the 100 year anniversary, Larsen & Shaw is hosting a private celebration that will include an open house and tours for family and friends as well as retirees and employees.
To top that off a special dinner will be held at the end of the week. (Friday)
