Goderich Flea Market To Return To Downtown

Goderich | by Peter Jackson

Former Mayor Kevin Morrison to organize Sunday flea market, after BIA disassociated due to costs.

Sunday markets are staging a return to Courthouse Park in downtown Goderich, starting this weekend.

Co-owner of Pat and Kevin's on the Square, Kevin Morrison says he and his partner Patrick Foster will operate the market as a private venture with no cost to ratepayers.

Town Council Monday unanimously approved the proposal, and Morrison tells Country 104.9 News that he already has a $2 million liability insurance policy in hand.

The weekly event will run through the remainder of the warm season, and replaces the Sunday flea market that had been backed by the Goderich Downtown BIA.

The BIA declined to host the flea market after the end of last summer because of increasing costs, and vendors are now holding that event at the C and E New and Used Furniture property.

Morrison is confident the Sunday market in Courthouse Park will be successful and that by next year, the number of vendors will grow to 200.

He says there will be around 20 vendors at the inaugural market this weekend, and he aims to add entertainment as the Sunday event expands.

Morrison says many downtown businesses have lost around 20 per-cent of their summer Sunday trade so far, because of the absence of activity in Courthouse Park.
