Ribfest Cancelled Over Policing Issue

Alliston | by Jill Young

Alliston Ribfest event has been cancelled due to what they call "unforseen circumstances".

Alliston Ribfest has been cancelled, and there's a further explanation as to why.

The events crew announced that due to unforseen circumstances, from the Town of New Tecumseth and Nottawasaga OPP - the event can't move forward.

BWG Events Group and Ontario Festival Group officials say that they made every effort to ensure the event went as planned, then got notice from the town that they had to cancel the event.

The group claims they had repeatedly tried to fulfill the OPP's requests for information, but were told their application couldn't be processed to get duty officers at the event.

Nottawasaga OPP issued their own statement saying the event organizers failed to adequately complete the necessary Paid Duty Request Application, within reasonable time expectations.

They say it's is the organizers direct responsibility to ensure that applications for paid duty requests be submitted to the OPP, with mandatory information related to the event and in a timely manner.

Nottawasaga OPP say they regret that the Alliston Ribfest was not able to proceed and remain committed to maintaining overall safety and security at all future community events.
