Snapshot of Simcoe County's homeless population

Orillia | by Bayshore News Staff

One in three individuals who were surveyed said they were newly homeless.

A snapshot of Simcoe County's homeless population.

The data was collected in a one-day period last April 2018 by volunteers with the Simcoe County Alliance to End Homelessness.

Spokesperson Linda Goodall told Orillia City council last night,  during that 24 hour period there were 697 people experiencing homelessness in Simcoe County.

Goodall says they know they did not capture every person.

She says addiction and substance use was the top reason people became homeless,  others were unable to pay rent and/or mortgage.
