Shelburne Addresses Odour From Water Treatment Plant

Shelburne | by Jill Young

Notice from town says water treatment plant not running over capacity, environmental assessment underway.

The issue of the Water Treatment Plant has been a hot one in Shelburne as of late.

With a delay on the biosolids haulage work and a mechanical problem adding to a pungent odour, there's a lot of rumours in town.

The Town took to Facebook this week to quash some misconceptions about the plant.

There have been comments from the community that the Shelburne Wastewater Facility doens'tr have the capacity to treat waste due to development.

Officials say that is not true, that the facility operates at 60% of its rated capacity and fully supports the needs of the entire community.

The town is currently going through an Environmental Assessment for the plant, and a update on that will be at the next council meeting on June 10th.

Some public open houses with the Ontario Clean Water Agency are also being planned to get residents more informed of how it all works.

Those meeting dates will be released at a later time.
