Jumpstart Day in Saugeen Shores Moved to Sunday

The fundraising event will also feature a bicycle obstacle course and bike tune-up

Canadian Tire Jumpstart Day in Saugeen Shores has been rescheduled for Sunday (May 26) and will bring wheels of all sizes to the Port Elgin Mowbray's Canadian Tire store, to raise money for local youth sport programming and bring bicycle safety to the forefront.

The family-friendly event from 11-2 p.m.,  will feature a BBQ, bicycle tune-ups and a Bicycle Rodeo obstacle course with Saugeen Shores Police.

Co-owner of Mowbray's Canadian Tire, Eleanor Mowbray says Jumpstart Day is the main fundraiser for the local sport charity and raised around $11,000 last year.

"People donate all year long (to Jumpstart), it's unbelievable," says Mowbray. "There's a lot of people that donate and actually memorial donations are quite high."

In 2018, $24,000 was donated back to local sports programs from hockey, dance to swimming lessons.

Mowbray says although they still donate to individual programs they're beginning to donate to community projects that can help year round.

"We actually just donated $16,000 worth of Nordic equipment to Saugeen District Secondary School, so in that way, the money stretches further and touches more individuals as well...by doing that the program will help hundreds of students."
