Housing Key In Filling Jobs In Huron, Says Economic Development Officer

Huron County | by Peter Jackson

Cody Joudry says not enough suitable housing in Huron County to fill vacant jobs.

Huron County is Ontario's most rural jurisdiction, but it's also a place where highly-skilled industrial jobs are begging to be filled.

The Four County Labour Market Planning Board for the last few years has repeated the need for skilled workers locally.

Huron County's economic development officer says bringing workers to Huron County and keeping them here, requires a two-track approach.

Cody Joudry tells Country 104.9 News that all three levels of government are aware that there isn't enough suitable housing in Huron, to attract new workers and families.

He adds that it is a challenge for the County and local municipalities to supply the type of housing new families will need.

Joudry wonders if a revamped approach to housing development is needed, to help fill the gap.

In the past year, several municipalities -- notably South Huron and Huron East -- have discussed new housing developments featuring single-family homes and multi-residential buildings.
