Local school band headed to national music festival

Wasaga Beach | by Catherine Thompson

Worsley elementary school concert band hopes to bring home gold.

A group of excited and talented local students are heading to the nation's capital today (Thursday).

The Worsley Elementary School Concert Band from Wasaga Beach is going to Ottawa to compete in the national music festival.

Grade 8 Teacher, Mr. Steve Ferris, says the hope is to bring home a Gold.

That's how the band got here in the first place. They received a Gold at Collingwood Collegiate Institute's music festival in March, booking themselves a spot at the nationals.

The band has made it to the nationals before with a silver invitation, but this is the first time going on a Gold.

Mr. Ferris says the town and the community have been so supportive, raising the goal of more than 15 thousand dollars to make this trip happen.

The students will get to do some sightseeing in Ottawa as well before heading back home on Saturday afternoon.
