The hospital birth numbers are on the rise across the Grey Bruce region.

The Hanover and District Hospital welcomed 161 little ones into the world which is a 6 percent increase over the previous hospital fiscal year. (previous year 152 births)

VP Michelle Scime-Summers says Hanover is not the only hospital in the region with birth rates on the rise.

The South Bruce Grey health centre experienced a 5.7 percent increase with 445 births, (previous year 421 births).

As for Grey Bruce Health Services, 691 babies were birthed in the Owen Sound hospital representing a 4 percent increase. (previous year 663)

This puts the overall hospital birthrate in Grey Bruce up by 5 percent.

Scime-Summers is not surprised by the increase in Hanover’s hospital births.

She says the Hanover and District Hospital has placed a huge focus on its obstetrics program over the years.

This includes the past introduction of the Midwife program, as well the introduction of epidurals and the implementation of the MORE OB program.

Scime-Summers is pleased to see the birth rates on the rise, and she expects Hanover’s numbers to continue to increase slightly this year.

The hospital fiscal year runs from April 1st to March 31st. The births were broken down by hospital fiscal year.
