Changes Coming To Goderich Boardwalk, Shoreline

Goderich | by Fadi Didi

Mayor John Grace says town staff will patrol for excess trash, more parking spaces freed.

Changes are coming to the Goderich shoreline.

Mayor John Grace says the boardwalk will be moved this month on an interim basis, before permanent changes are made in the Fall.

Due to damage from high water levels in Lake Huron, town staff have barricaded sections of the boardwalk for the public's safety, and to make the necessary repairs.

Last summer, the issue of garbage disposal along the town's shore became prominent on social media, with photos circulating of large collections of refuse surrounding packed receptacles.

Grace says town staff will be diverted to the beach to take care of overflows of garbage, ensuring the issue does not persist.

The Mayor also cites parking as an issue, with many visitors using grass or rocky areas to park when spaces are scarce.

Grace tells us impediments, such as rocks, have been placed in areas to will deter would-be illegal parkers, and the town will be stepping up by-law enforcement to ensure overnight campers do not persist.
