The Warden of Huron County is encouraged that the expansion of Akromold Inc in Goderich may signal the start of a brighter economic future locally.
The company hopes to expand its full-time workforce at its second Mooney Street plant to 10 from the current three, in the manufacture of precision parts for the nuclear power industry.
Jim Ginn says this is Huron County's first venture connected with refurbishment work at Bruce Power, and hopes it will attract skilled workers from outside our area.
He hopes that Akromold's new partnership with Laker Energy Products and Bruce Power will be a signal to other related companies, that they can do business in Huron County.
Ginn adds that Goderich and Huron County's relative closeness to the Bruce Power complex near Tiverton can act as an incentive for similar ventures in the future.
The Four County Labour Market Planning Board says there is a need for skilled workers across Huron, and not enough qualified candidates to fill existing job openings.
Akromold was established in 1957, and officially opened its second facility last week.
