Two People Charged in Owen Sound Child Abuse Investigation

Owen Sound | by Matt Hermiz

Police say two-year-old toddler suffered serious injuries, significant emotional trauma.

Owen Sound Police have charged a mother and her ex-boyfriend following the conclusion of a child abuse investigation.

City police say in January 2019 the investigation was opened after serious injuries were detected to a two-year-old toddler.

Police say the child was hospitalized at Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound for about two weeks and then taken to London Health Sciences for additional treatment.

Owen Sound Police say investigation determined there was an unreasonable delay in the child receiving "obviously necessary and immediate medical care."

Police say the injuries the two-year-old suffered are serious but do not appear life-altering. City Police say the child also suffered significant acute emotional trauma as a result.

Police say the child's 25-year-old mother was arrested and charged on April 4 with failing to provide the necessities of life to her child.

A 26-year-old former boyfriend of the mother was also arrested earlier today and charged with assault causing bodily harm and failing to provide the necessities of life to a child.

Police have not named the accused. They are both scheduled to appear in court next month.
