The second annual Gran Fondo Lake Huron continues to grow.
At last check, over 320 bikers have registered for the August event, well ahead of last year's pace.
Executive Director of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation Tracy Murray believes they will have up to 1,000 participants this year, well over the 671 who took part last year.
The Foundation is putting on the event as a fundraiser and Murray says the goal is $150,000.
The money raised by bikers will be used to purchase equipment for the Southampton Hospital, like a patient wander-guard system which is in essence, security bracelets worn primarily by patients with alzheimer's or dementia.
Murray says "It would allow these patients freedom to move about the in-patient unit without leaving the facility and endangering themselves."
This year's Gran Fondo, which features courses of 30, 70, 110 and 160K routes, goes August 18th.
