Goderich CAO Says Insurance Letter Not A Scam

Goderich | by Peter Jackson

Larry McCabe says letter sent last week from Service Line Warranties is legitimate, voluntary.

Goderich residents are being assured again, that a new insurance plan to guard against water and sewer-related damage to their properties is not a scam.

The Town last spring entered into an agreement with Cincinnati-based Service Line Warranties to provide insurance to property owners who experience sewer and water line breaches.

Letters were sent to property owners last week and the Town has posted a notice on its website and on social media, to spread the word that the plan is legitimate and voluntary.

Chief Administrative Office Larry McCabe says the plan is authorized by Local Authority Services, which is affiliated with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.

Goderich is one of 51 Ontario communities to offer the Service Line Warranties insurance package.

McCabe says the plan will help cut down on homeowners' expenses in dealing with water and sewer issues, which can run into the thousands of dollars in up-front payments.

He stresses that the plan is voluntary, and payments can be made monthly or once a year.

Any tenants who received the Service Line Warranties letter are not affected, because the package is targeted at owners and landlords only.
