Over 3,400 Teaching Jobs to be Cut in Ontario

Regional | by Jill Young

The Ford government says over 3,400 mostly high school teachers will be cut over four years.

Thousands of teaching jobs are going to be cut by the Ontario government over the next four years.

The cuts of 3,400 teachers will begin this fall, most of them for high school instructors, and it's expected to save the government $851-million dollars.

Most of them will be through attrition and retirements.

Ontario high school students walked out of class yesterday afternoon for a province-wide protest over the Ford government's changes to the education system.

Thousands of students took part including ones from Centre Dufferin in Shelburne, Westside and ODSS in Orangeville, Mayfield Secondary and Robert F. Hall in Caledon, and St. Thomas Aquinas in Tottenham.
